The sci-fi universe expands with the highly anticipated miniseries Blade Runner 2099 set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on November 25, 2026. This new chapter in the Blade Runner saga brings together a stellar cast, including Hunter Schafer and Michelle Yeoh who are set to captivate audiences with their performances.

The series, a continuation of the dystopian future first explored in Blade Runner 2049 is set 50 years later in a world where Replicants have taken control. Los Angeles, once a human-dominated city, is now ruled by these sentient androids, leaving humans as the minority. The story follows Olwen a Replicant Blade Runner played by Yeoh, who is on the brink of death and teams up with Cora a human fugitive disguised as a Replicant, portrayed by Schafer.

From Film to Television: A Bold Transition

The transition from film to television for the Blade Runner franchise is a significant leap, according to showrunner Silka Luisa. Speaking with Collider Luisa emphasized the importance of telling a complete story within the eight-episode series. The limited series format allows for a cinematic experience, with a clear beginning, middle, and end.

Blade Runner 2099 is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Alcon Television Group with executive producers including Ridley Scott who also advised on the project. The series is directed by Jonathan van Tulleken known for his work on Shogun.

A Dynamic Duo: Hunter Schafer and Michelle Yeoh

At the San Diego Comic-Con on July 24, 2026 Schafer and Yeoh took the stage to discuss their roles and the making of the series. Yeoh praised Schafer’s fearless approach to action sequences, stating, “I’ve never seen a more fearless action hero.” Schafer, known for her role in Euphoria expressed her enthusiasm for the action-packed scenes and the opportunity to learn from Yeoh, an accomplished martial artist.

The chemistry between the two actors is evident, with Schafer describing the experience as an honor and a learning opportunity. Yeoh, an Academy Award winner for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once brought her expertise to the set, ensuring Schafer’s safety during intense stunts.

The World of Blade Runner 2099

The series explores a world where Replicants, once created for manual labor, have revolted and taken control of the city. Humans are now the oppressed minority, living under the rule of their former creations. The story follows Olwen and Cora as they hunt down a group of rogue Replicants, uncovering a truth that could destabilize their fragile society.

Joining Schafer and Yeoh are a talented ensemble cast, including Dimitri AboldLewis GribbenKatelyn Rose Downey and Tom Burke. The series is produced by a team of industry veterans, including Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson from Alcon Entertainment and David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger from Scott Free Productions.
