Missed the Queens Ball? Here’s How to Celebrate Pride on the Gold Coast

Join the Gold Coast's vibrant LGBTQIA+ community this Saturday for a series of exciting Pride events, offering alternatives to the iconic Queens Ball.

Missed the Queens Ball? Here’s How to Celebrate Pride on the Gold Coast

The 65th annual Queens Ballhosted by Brisbane Prideis set to take place this Saturday. As the longest continuously running LGBTQIA+ event in the world, it has grown from its humble beginnings on Tamborine Mountain in the Gold Coast Hinterland into a grand gala celebrating Queensland’s diverse community. However, not everyone can attend the main event due to various constraints.

Fortunately, the Gold Coast’s inclusive venues have stepped up to ensure that everyone can partake in the Pride celebrations. From masquerade balls to live screenings and den nights, there’s something for everyone. Here’s a look at the exciting alternatives you can enjoy this Saturday.

Hairy Mary’s Kings & Queens Masquerade Ball

Hairy Mary’s on the Gold Coast is hosting a free, glamorous Pride celebration as part of the Gold Coast’s Pride Month events. This masquerade ball promises dazzling entertainment, iconic looks, and plenty of dancing late into the night.

Steven Fahd of Hairy Mary’s shared their excitement about the event, stating, “It’s the first time we are hosting this event, because we know not everyone can afford to go to the Ball.” Recognizing the challenges of travel and accommodation costs, Hairy Mary’s decided to create their own King and Queens Ball Masquerade Party.

The venue will be adorned with camp, feathery decorations and hosted by Miss Dee and Buttery Chard, with DJ Adam Cox spinning the tunes. Fahd emphasized their commitment to inclusivity, saying, “We love creating space for everyone to come and be welcome and celebrated.” The event is free, ensuring that everyone can join in the fun.

Queens Ball Live Screening at Come to Daddy

If you’re eager to be part of the Queens Ball experience, Come to Daddy is hosting a live screening of the event at their LGBTQIA+ bar. Starting at 6 pm, the community can gather to cheer on Come to Daddy, who are nominated for two awards: Venue of the Year and Event of the Year for Key To The Kingdom.

Billerwell Daye, owner of Come to Daddy, expressed their appreciation for the community’s support. “It’s always lovely when the community chooses to show support and appreciation,” Daye said. While they will be attending the Queens Ball, a big screen will be set up at Come to Daddy, streaming the event all night. The Queensland Camping Bears will be facilitating the screening, promising a fun and engaging night.

Come to Daddy will also have full kitchen service available, offering bites and main meals to enhance the viewing experience. It’s a perfect opportunity to enjoy a drink and a meal while celebrating Pride.

BrisBears Den Night at Sporties

For those looking for a more laid-back evening, BrisBears are hosting their monthly Den Night at Sporties this Saturday. Doors open at 9 pm, offering a relaxed and familiar pub atmosphere. There’s no rush or fuss—just a chance to unwind with friends and enjoy the night.

From 9 pm, Jack Popper from Melbourne will take over the decks, keeping the dance floor alive with great music. There’s no specific theme or dress code—just a whole lot of fun. It’s about bears, mates, music, and that unmistakable feeling of being exactly where you’re meant to be.

Whether you’re dressed up or casual, the focus is on enjoying the company and the music. It’s a perfect way to celebrate Pride with your community.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, this Saturday is all about embracing Pride and being part of the vibrant LGBTQIA+ community on the Gold Coast. Don’t miss out on these exciting events and the opportunity to connect with others in a spirit of celebration and inclusivity.
