Perth’s Kink Community Gathers for West Oz Leather’s First Birthday Celebration

West Oz Leather is celebrating its first anniversary with a weekend filled with social gatherings, performances, and community bonding in Perth.

Perth's Kink Community Gathers for West Oz Leather's First Birthday Celebration

The West Oz Leather community in Perth is buzzing with excitement as they mark their first anniversary with a vibrant weekend of events. What began as a dream to rebuild and update the city’s leather community has quickly become a thriving hub for kink and fetish enthusiasts.

Shane Early, a committee member, shared his enthusiasm with QNews, stating, “It’s all a bit of a dream. We blinked, and suddenly we are a year old. It’s wonderful.” The group has evolved from a simple idea to a vital part of Perth’s diverse community, offering a unique space for those who love leather, latex, and everything in between.

Building a Community for All

West Oz Leather was created to fill a gap in Perth’s kink scene. While groups like the bears and pups have their own spaces, there was a need for something different—a community that catered specifically to leather enthusiasts. Early explained, “We have the bears and the pups, and they both do really wonderful things here in our community. But everyone was asking for our own leather community. Something a bit different from either of them.”

The group’s motto, “Wear what you love and love what you wear,” encapsulates their inclusive and supportive ethos. Their monthly social catch-ups have seen strong turnouts, reflecting the growing support and enthusiasm within the community.

A Weekend of Celebration

The anniversary celebrations kick off on Friday night with a late-night social soiree at Moana Hall. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in their kinkiest attire for an evening of food, music by DJs Tom of Midland and Hello Sailor, and kinky performances. Early described the event as “a pretty chill group,” with plans for a grazing table featuring sausage rolls made by a member’s mother, adding a touch of homely comfort to the festivities.

Pleasure Park: A Night of Hedonism and Joy

Saturday’s main event, Pleasure Park takes place at Old Habits Neighbourhood Bar. This male-only event promises a perfect blend of hedonism, joy, and pleasure, while also exploring themes of strength, beauty, and confidence. Early highlighted the fantastic music lineup and the added convenience of a bus service to Perth Steamworks, the local sauna, for post-party kick-ons.

Recovery and Reflection

For those still standing on Sunday morning, a recovery event at Frisk offers a chance to unwind and reflect on the weekend’s fun. This casual, free gathering is an opportunity to meet and connect with others outside of their usual gear. Early joked, “We’ll all be hurting Sunday morning, but for those who are still with us, they’ll be able to gather for a little recovery drink and to talk about the fun that we had.”

The recovery event is particularly welcoming for newbies, providing a relaxed environment to meet the community in a more casual setting. Early emphasized, “No one needs to wear gear. This is where you can meet outside of your hide or rubber, our pup hoods. For newbies, Sunday is the way to do it. We’ll all just be a little dusty.”

As West Oz Leather celebrates its first anniversary, the community looks forward to continued growth and more memorable events. For those interested in joining the celebrations or learning more about the group, they can find West Oz Leather on Facebook or Instagram.
