The iconic duo Romy and Michele is back, and fans couldn’t be more thrilled. Nearly 20 years after their first adventure, Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino are reuniting to bring the beloved characters back to life. The sequel to Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion is officially in production, with the original cast and crew returning to recreate the magic.

The original 1997 film, directed by David Mirkin and written by Robin Schiff, followed the misadventures of Romy White and Michele Weinberger as they embarked on a road trip to their 10-year high school reunion. Their plan to impress their former classmates with fabricated tales of success took hilarious turns, making the film a cult classic. Now, the sequel promises to bring back the same charm and humor that made the first film so beloved.

Reuniting the Original Cast

The sequel will see the return of the original cast, including Alan Cumming as Sandy Frink, Janeane Garofalo as Heather, Camryn Manheim as Toby, and Julia Campbell as Christie. Joining them are new faces like Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton, and Nathan Lee Graham, although their roles have not yet been disclosed.

Mira Sorvino expressed her excitement on social media, stating, “It’s finally happening. Bursting with joy to be ‘reunited!'”. Fans and celebrities alike have shared their enthusiasm, with Dannii Minogue and Hayley Kiyoko among those expressing their anticipation for the reboot.

Behind the Scenes: Creative Team Reunites

The creative team behind the original film is also returning for the sequel. Robin Schiff, who penned the original screenplay, is back to write the new script. Costume designer Mona May, known for her work on Cluelesswill ensure the sequel retains the distinctive fashion flair of the 1997 film. “I’m so excited to be a part of this amazing project to keep the DNA of the characters and design the fashions to be as fun and fabulous as the original film,” May said.

The film will be directed by Tim Federle, known for his work on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. He is also producing the film alongside Laurence Mark, who produced the first film. Executive producers include Barry Kemp, Sorvino, Kudrow, and Schiff.

Streaming Exclusively on Hulu

The sequel will stream exclusively as a Hulu Originalwhich can be accessed on Disney+ in Australia. The film is set to bring back the hilarious and quotable moments that fans have come to love, with the original cast and creative team working together to recreate the magic of the first film.
