Paris Pride March Moved to October Due to June Heatwave

The Paris Pride march, originally scheduled for June 2026, has been rescheduled to October 3rd due to extreme heat. Learn about the new plans and community response.

Paris Pride March Moved to October Due to June Heatwave

The Paris Pride march an annual celebration of LGBTQIA+ pride and rights, has been rescheduled from its original June date to October 3, 2026. The change comes in the wake of a severe heatwave that forced organizers to postpone the event. This year’s march will maintain the same spirit and message as originally planned, with some adjustments to accommodate the new date.

The decision to reschedule was not taken lightly. The Inter-LGBT the organization behind the event, had to navigate a complex calendar filled with other major events. September alone features eight concerts by Céline Dion the Pope’s visit to Paris and significant festivals like Rock en Seine and the Fête de l’Humanité. Additionally, the LGBTQIA+ community has several important events planned, including the Global Black Pride from September 9 to 13 and the ExisTransInter event in mid-October.

The Challenges of Rescheduling

Rescheduling the Pride march presented significant logistical and financial challenges. The original date was canceled just two days before the event due to extreme heat and the strain on emergency services. This late cancellation resulted in substantial financial losses for the organizers, estimated at around 50,000 euros. The Inter-LGBT is currently renegotiating contracts and seeking additional funding to cover these losses.

To help offset the financial impact, the community has rallied together. Several fundraising events have been organized, including a drag bingo night on September 6 at La Félicità with Minima Gesté, an event on September 18 at the Merci Marsha bar in the 11th arrondissement, and a planned soirée at the Tango. A solidarity fundraiser has already raised approximately 10,000 euros demonstrating the community’s resilience and support.

The Importance of the Pride March

The Pride march is more than just a celebration; it is a powerful statement of solidarity and resistance. Following the tragic Islamist attack during the Berlin Pride this summer, the need for such a statement in Paris is more pressing than ever. The march serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for LGBTQIA+ rights and the importance of visibility and unity.

The new date, October 3, 2026 was chosen as a compromise to avoid conflicting with other significant events. It also comes just eight months before the French presidential election making it a strategic time to amplify the voices of the LGBTQIA+ community and advocate for their rights. The march will start at the Place d’Italie and conclude at the Place de la Bastille with a grand concert at the Place de la République following the event.

The Paris Pride march is a testament to the community’s strength and determination. Despite the challenges posed by the heatwave and the complex scheduling, the event will go forward, stronger and more united than ever. The community’s ability to adapt and support each other in times of difficulty is a powerful reminder of the spirit of Pride.
